Fleeing Suspect Caught at 7-Eleven in North Palmetto

A dramatic takedown involving multiple law enforcement agencies unfolded Tuesday, February 18th at approximately 8 p.m., leading to an arrest at the 7-Eleven located off Moccasin Wallow Road and Gateway Blvd. in Palmetto.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a white 2013 Mercedes E350 convertible at New Eastbay Road and Bullfrog Ct in Riverview. Deputies approached the driver, Jacques Howell Mojica, age 26, and requested that he exit the vehicle. However, he fled from the traffic stop at a high rate of speed.

The HCSO aviation unit and at least 10 ground deputies tracked the vehicle as the driver fled into Manatee County. Upon entering the county, the vehicle stopped at a 7-Eleven gas station located at 4920 Moccasin Wallow Road. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) entered the parking lot, and HCSO units quickly coordinated to box in the suspect’s vehicle. Witnesses described the suspects car being rammed multiple times by law enforcement to get the suspect to stop. When the suspect refused to exit the vehicle, a taser was deployed to subdue him.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jacques Howell Mojica and he is facing one count of aggravated fleeing to elude, one count of resisting an officer without violence, and one count of battery on a law enforcement officer. Mr. Mojica was transported by HCSO deputies to the Manatee County Jail. The Florida Highway Patrol is filing separate charges for FHP involvement.
