Temporary road closures from second oversized load transport: What you need to know

Road construction Traffic

The second of five oversized load transports is set for this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, February 8th and 9th. These large power plant components are being transported by Edwards from Port Manatee to TECO’s Polk Power Plant. Expect rolling temporary road closures along Moccasin Wallow Road, between US-41 and US-301.

The most significant delays will occur on Saturday, February 8th, between 6 AM and 5 PM (est.) along Moccasin Wallow Road at intersections with traffic signals. On Sunday, February 9th, the delays will be shorter as the load progresses east on SR-62 and north on CR-39. For the most up-to-date road conditions, visit fl511.com or use the Florida 511 mobile app.

Last weekend marked the first and largest oversized load transport, weighing 196,346 kg, which converts to approximately 432,868 lbs.

We inquired with the County about potential damage to the recently paved sections of Moccasin Wallow Road due to the heavy load, but they reassured us that the pavement was constructed to modern standards and will not experience degradation.

We reached out to TECO to learn more about the power plant components and will let you know what they advise.
