ABC Fine Wine & Spirits Opens New Store in North Palmetto

Commercial construction Grand Opening

The “Open” signs quietly popped up sometime Wednesday, signaling the arrival of North Palmetto’s newest retailer.

ABC Fine Wine & Spirits held a soft opening today for its new 11,000-square-foot store at 4925 Moccasin Wallow Road, welcoming early customers right on track with the spring 2026 timeline announced last fall.

The opening comes seven months after crews broke ground in September on the two-story building, located in the Woods of Moccasin Wallow Commercial development. The launch marks the Florida-based chain’s fifth location in Manatee County.

Inside, the new store stays true to the layout familiar to local shoppers. The ground-floor retail space features the chain’s signature amenities, including a walk-in humidor and a walk-in beer cooler. The building’s second floor, accessible only to staff via a freight elevator, is dedicated entirely to merchandise storage.

The new ABC location sits just north of the Shoppes at Moccasin Wallow, adjacent to Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers. The liquor retailer also serves as an anchor for a rapidly growing commercial strip. Right next door, crews recently finished the exterior shell of a new retail and medical plaza set to bring several new tenants to the intersection, including Ziki Sushi and Grill, BODYBAR Pilates, Mann Orthodontics, and The Dream Barbershop.

ABC Liquors Inc. purchased the site for $1.3 million in March 2024. Operating more than 125 stores statewide, the independent retailer typically stocks upward of 10,000 different wines, spirits and beers. To add convenience for shoppers, the store offers online ordering for in-store pickup and will price match brick-and-mortar competitors within a 10-mile radius.

While the new store brings added convenience to North Palmetto, the broader proliferation of liquor retailers frequently draws scrutiny from public health experts. National research on drinking habits indicates that the alcohol industry relies heavily on a small segment of consumers for the majority of its sales. Data shows the top 10% of American drinkers consume more than half of all alcohol sold in the U.S., averaging about 10 drinks per day, leading health advocates to argue that an influx of new outlets may disproportionately fuel problematic drinking rather than simply serving moderate consumers.1 2
