FDOT Launches Study on I-75 and Moccasin Wallow Rd Improvements

County Improvements Road construction

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has initiated a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study for the Interstate 75 (I-75) interchange at Moccasin Wallow Road in Manatee County. As illustrated in the map below, this important study will assess potential modifications to the existing interchange and explore the construction of a braided ramp that will connect the I-275 and Moccasin Wallow Road interchanges.

WHAT IS A BRAIDED RAMP?

Braided ramps are designed to enhance traffic flow by separating vehicles entering and exiting the freeway, allowing one ramp to “braid” over the other. This innovative solution aims to reduce congestion and improve safety on the roadways. The proposed improvements will not only enhance mobility but also accommodate the increasing travel demands generated by approved developments in the surrounding area.

Situated at Mile Posts 229 and 230, these interchanges play a vital role in local traffic flow. The proposed enhancements aim to improve mobility and effectively accommodate the travel demands arising from approved developments in the area.

WHAT IS A PD&E STUDY?

A Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study is a comprehensive environmental and engineering assessment conducted by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This process aims to evaluate the social, economic, natural, and physical environmental impacts of proposed transportation improvement projects.

Following the guidelines established by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as well as federal and state regulations, the PD&E Study involves a collaborative effort among professional engineers, planners, and scientists. These experts gather and analyze critical project-related information to identify the most effective solutions for transportation needs.

A key aspect of the PD&E process is community engagement and agency coordination, ensuring that local stakeholders have a voice in the decision-making process. By prioritizing environmental stewardship and public involvement, the PD&E Study plays a vital role in developing sustainable transportation solutions that benefit both the community and the environment.
