A new pizza restaurant has taken over the space previously occupied by TK Grill & Barbecue in the The Shoppes at Moccasin Wallow. Gianni’s Pizza Express is between Corporate Ladder Brewing and American Honey Creamery.
UPDATE 8/23/2024 – They are now open!
This new location is an express version of Gianni’s Pizza & More in Bradenton. Maia Surdez and her husband own both pizza restaurants, along with Gianni’s American Trattoria in Sarasota.
All of the old TK Grill signs have been removed. New Gianni’s Pizza Express signs are up in both sign monuments for the shopping plaza.
TK Grill & Barbecue was one of the first businesses to open in The Shoppes of Moccasin Wallow back in January 2019. With no restaurants in the area, TK Grill was a big hit, especially with meat lovers. They had a 400-pound smoker on-site and served heaping portions of brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. They also had the Beast Challenge, which was a huge dish with a hamburger, brisket, pulled pork, chicken thighs, french fries, onion rings, cole slaw, and potato salad. If you ate the entire meal in 20 minutes, you wouldn’t have to pay the $24.99 price tag, and you would get your photo on the wall.
TK Grill was Jimmey and Gretta Shelton’s brick and mortar restaurant, which was a spin-off of their successful Traveling Kitchen food truck and catering business. The Traveling Kitchen is still catering booked events, but it sounds like more changes are coming.

I’m looking forward to this new pizza. Jet’s is good, but sometimes I don’t want deep dish. Hungry Howies and Papa John’s also deliver to us, but they’re just okay.
TK Grill was great and will be missed. The biggest problem with TK was their inconsistent hours. They’d randomly be closed and it got to where we’d have to call them or see their FB page to see if they were actually open before visiting them. Their brisket and burgers were great! I never got to try the donuts before they got rid of the machine.
