Unborn Child Dies in Wrong Way DUI Crash on DeSoto Bridge, Driver Arrested

A tragic crash early Sunday morning claimed the life of an unborn child and left a woman critically injured after a head-on collision on the DeSoto Bridge. Authorities say the crash occurred around 4:36 a.m. on April 6th, when Laurentino Serrano-Juarez, 31, of Bradenton, was driving a GMC SUV southbound in the northbound lanes of the bridge.

According to the Palmetto Police Department, Serrano-Juarez struck a northbound sedan, which was driven by a 28-year-old woman from St. Petersburg who was pregnant. Both drivers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, with Serrano-Juarez being released into police custody after receiving medical attention. The driver of the sedan sustained critical injuries and remains hospitalized. Tragically, her unborn child did not survive the crash.

Serrano-Juarez was arrested and charged with DUI Manslaughter, DUI with Serious Bodily Injury to Another, DUI Property Damage, and Driving with No Valid Driver’s License. He is currently being held at the Manatee County Jail.
