The 8th Annual Touch-A-Truck event at Rocky Bluff Library brought excitement and hands-on fun to the community on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Families from across Ellenton and surrounding areas gathered to get up close with an impressive array of vehicles from various public safety departments and local services.

Highlighting the event was the towering North River fire truck, giving kids a chance to climb aboard and imagine themselves as brave firefighters. Nearby, a police SUV from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office gave families a chance to explore a vital part of the community’s safety equipment. The Manatee Search and Rescue vehicles were also on display, showing off the essential tools used in rescue missions.

A diverse range of other vehicles rounded out the event, including a dump truck, trash truck, recycle truck, and an FPL bucket truck, each offering hands-on opportunities for children to learn about how these essential services keep the community running smoothly.

Young construction enthusiasts were drawn to the impressive excavator, giving them a hands-on opportunity to explore the heavy-duty machinery used in construction. At the same time, the vacuum trucks demonstrated their powerful suction capabilities, providing an engaging and educational experience for visitors. To add even more fun to the day, a fire department-themed bounce house offered kids a chance to jump and play in a firetruck-inspired paradise, blending excitement with a touch of imaginative play.

The event was a massive success, drawing families, children, and vehicle enthusiasts alike. Attendees left with a greater appreciation for the equipment that serves their community.

The absence of the MCAT transit bus was noted, as it’s a popular favorite that allows families to learn more about public transportation. Additionally, the police officer who normally helps guide pedestrians safely across Ridgewood Blvd—especially important given the road’s heavy traffic and the challenges of crossing with young children—was missed by many. Despite these missing elements, the event was still a success, with families enjoying the interactive displays and the spirit of fun, learning, and community that defines Touch-A-Truck.

  1. We took out kids and everyone had a great time. They got safety vests from the garbage truck and pretend hard hats from the electricity co. bucket truck. They bounced themselves to exhaustion and everyone was happy!
