A man arrested earlier this year after allegedly breaking into a Palmetto home and touching a sleeping woman without her consent has been sentenced to prison, court records show.
Roger Ivan Lopez Gomez, 26, entered a no contest plea on Oct. 23, 2025, and was adjudicated guilty, according to Manatee County court records. He was sentenced to 48 months in the Florida Department of Corrections, with credit for 235 days already served in jail.
The case stems from a March 2, 2025 incident in which Palmetto police say Lopez Gomez entered a residence in the early morning hours, went upstairs and touched a woman while she was asleep. The woman woke up and screamed, alerting others in the home, and the suspect fled the residence, authorities said.

Investigators later identified Lopez Gomez after a surveillance image from the home was shared in a local Facebook group, leading police to a restaurant in Parrish where he worked at the time, according to authorities.
As part of his sentence, Lopez Gomez was ordered to have no contact with the victim and to submit a biological specimen for inclusion in the FDLE DNA database.
State corrections records show Lopez Gomez was transferred on Dec. 16, 2025, to the Florida Department of Corrections in the Central Florida Reception Center near Orlando. He is listed as inmate number A52934.
