A massive new Kangaroo Express gas station and convenience store has officially opened its doors at U.S. 41 and 69th Street East, adding a major fueling stop near the busy Interstate 275 interchange.
The new facility joins a rapid wave of commercial development at the intersection. It sits immediately adjacent to a new McDonald’s that opened in September 2025, and a 7-Eleven that opened its doors in March 2025.
Designed to handle heavy traffic from both daily commuters and I-275 travelers, the sprawling site features 20 regular gasoline fueling spots and six dedicated diesel pumps for larger vehicles. Inside, the location boasts a walk-in beer cave and a full-service Dunkin’ Donuts, which includes an exterior drive-thru for customers on the go.

However, the new facility has a surprisingly familiar feel for observant local customers.
Early planning documents initially identified the project as a Circle K. That designation puzzled local residents, considering a Circle K already operates directly across the street in a building that previously housed an Uppy’s Shell station and a Dairy Queen.

While the new site ultimately opened under the Kangaroo Express banner, the interior tells a different story. The store features the exact same merchandise and layout as a standard Circle K, including its signature fountain drink program. Several items on the shelves even bear the Circle K logo.

The brand overlap is no coincidence. Both Kangaroo Express and Circle K operate under Alimentation Couche-Tard, a Canadian multinational corporation that ranks as the second-largest convenience store operator globally.
Couche-Tard acquired The Pantry Inc., the original parent company of Kangaroo Express, in 2015. While the company converted the majority of its 1,500 company-operated Kangaroo Express locations into Circle K stores, a select group was made available for sale to form the foundation of the current Kangaroo Express Franchise program.
With its expansive fueling options, quick-service restaurant partnership and prime location, the new Kangaroo Express is expected to serve as a major hub for the rapidly expanding Palmetto corridor.
